Understanding Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Group Guidelines
Welcome to the Understanding Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Group. This group aims to provide a safe, supportive environment for individuals healing from narcissistic abuse. To foster a positive experience for all members, please adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Confidentiality
- What is shared in the group stays in the group. Members must respect each other's privacy and refrain from discussing anyone’s experiences outside the group.
2. Respectful Communication
- Practice active listening and allow others to speak without interruption. Respect differing perspectives and avoid judgmental or dismissive comments.
3. Use “I” Statements
- When sharing personal experiences, use “I” statements (e.g., “I feel…” or “I experienced…”) to express your thoughts and feelings without placing blame on others.
4. Stay on Topic
- Focus discussions on narcissistic abuse and recovery. While personal experiences are encouraged, try to keep conversations relevant to the group topic to ensure a cohesive experience for everyone.
5. No Personal Attacks or Criticism
- Avoid any disrespectful behavior, including personal attacks, criticisms, or blaming others for their experiences. This is a supportive environment where all members should feel safe to share.
6. Limit Sharing Time
- To ensure everyone has an opportunity to speak, be mindful of how much time you take when sharing. Allow for balanced participation among all group members.
7. Avoid Providing Solutions
- Instead of offering direct solutions or advice to others’ problems, provide emotional support and validation. Encourage members to explore their own solutions.
8. Respect Boundaries
- Be mindful of others’ boundaries regarding personal sharing. If someone indicates they are uncomfortable discussing a particular topic, honor their wishes.
9. Support Each Other
- Engage in empathy and support. Acknowledge the courage it takes to share and encourage one another on the journey of recovery.
10. Seek Professional Help If Needed
- Remember that this group is a supportive environment, but not a substitute for professional therapy. If you feel overwhelmed, please seek guidance from a mental health professional.
11. Participation is Voluntary
- Members are encouraged to participate to the extent they feel comfortable. If you prefer to listen rather than share, that is completely acceptable.
12. Feedback and Suggestions
- Constructive feedback is welcome. If you have suggestions on improving the group experience, please share them with the facilitator.
Final Note
We understand that discussing experiences related to narcissistic abuse can be emotional and challenging. We encourage all members to practice self-care and reach out for additional support as needed. Thank you for being here and for contributing to a supportive and healing environment.
Let’s embark on this journey together!
