Anticipatory Grief Support for Pet Parents

    Death of a loved one

DESCRIPTION

cover

This group is for those anticipating the loss of a companion animal. When caring for our pets, we often face decisions that are emotionally difficult to make and complicated in nature, and encounter gray areas where it isn't always clear what to do. It can be hard to find a listening ear; someone who will validate the experience you are going through and understand the special relationship that you have with your companion animal. This group will be a safe space to share your thoughts and feelings as you move through this challenging time.

Community Guidelines

This is a support group and is not the equivalent of seeking mental health counseling. If you are in need of counseling support, resources can be offered by the group leader to help connect you to the right professional.

This group operates on the following foundation:

  • Show respect for all group members and refrain from pushing personal opinions or beliefs on others. Any disrespectful conduct may result in being asked to leave the group. All group members have the right to feel safe and accepted.
  • Do not offer advice to group members on what they should/should not do for their companion animals; each person has a unique situation and should consult with their veterinarian for decision making advice. This is a listening space, not a space to give advice.
  • Understand that grief is unique and that there is no right or wrong way to grieve. Respect that others may be in a different place with their grief or choose to deal with it their own way.
  • Refrain from providing graphic detail that may be disturbing to other group members as this may be triggering and even traumatic for others to hear. If you need a safe space to process your own traumatic experience, please consult with the group leader individually for resources.
  • Respect the boundaries of other group members; refrain from asking for or giving your personal contact information to group members as this may create boundary and privacy issues.
